to see bicycle lanes after Saanich council backs The plan for separated bike lanes along Shelbourne Street pandora create your own bracelet is part of a cultural shift across Greater Victoria, says one cycling advocate.

That shift is seeing municipal politicians push for bike friendly roads, even if it irks drivers. Saanich councillors voted last week in favour of a $12.5 million plan that would improve pedestrian walkways and add separated cycle lanes on both sides of Shelbourne Street from North Dairy Road to Torquay Drive. Vehicle traffic will be restricted to two lanes from four lanes between Broadmead/Kisber avenues and Garnet Road. The City of sale at pandora Victoria is moving ahead with its Biketoria plans, adding dedicated bike lanes along Pandora Avenue between Store and Cook streets and Fort Street between Wharf and Cook streets. "There's no doubt that both Victoria's plan and the improvements on Shelbourne are really going to make an impact in a positive way for people who choose to ride a bike," said Cindy Marven, a Saanich resident who runs WeBike, a non profit that promotes cycling for women. Marven said she anticipates some initial resistance from drivers, but support for bike lanes requires a complete shift in attitudes toward commuting. "I think it's really important we move toward a multi modal approach to transportation planning," Marven said. Saanich Coun. Vic Derman, who pandora charms bridesmaid has been part of the Shelbourne Valley Action Plan for years as chairman of the Bicycle and pandora online store australia Pedestrian Mobility committee, said Shelbourne Street is unattractive and unsafe for cyclists. "If you leave that street the way it is now, we're not going to make it a people place. It's nasty and aggressive," Derman said. "I don't know many people who would cycle along Shelbourne Street in its present condition with their kids." Shelbourne Street is a major corridor, 90 per cent of which is allotted for cars and 10 per cent for pedestrians, he said. "If we are going to act on the fact that walking, cycling and transit are preferred modes in our official community plans, then you have to do something about that," he said. Derman said some motorists have expressed opposition to the plan, but he doesn't anticipate a major increase in congestion, predicting at most it might take one or two minutes longer to drive through the Shelbourne corridor. Work on the project, which will start next year, will likely take three years to complete.

In 2015, two plans for the area were brought to council. One option kept four lanes of traffic and no continuous, separated bike lanes. The other plan opted for cycling along the whole route, but eliminated vehicle lanes and made left turns impossible in many places.
